HOW TO CHECK YOUR BMI

Calculating your Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple way to estimate whether your weight falls within a healthy range relative to your height. To calculate your BMI, follow these steps:

  1. Convert Your Height to Meters:

    • If your height is in feet and inches, you need to convert it to meters. To do this, multiply the number of feet by 0.3048 and add any remaining inches multiplied by 0.0254.
  2. Square Your Height in Meters:

    • Once you have your height in meters, square that number. This means multiplying your height in meters by itself.
  3. Calculate Your BMI:

    • Divide your weight in kilograms by the squared height in meters. The formula is: BMI = weight (kg) / (height (m) * height (m))
  4. Interpret Your BMI:

    • After calculating your BMI, you can use the following categories to interpret the results:
      • Underweight: BMI < 18.5
      • Normal weight: BMI 18.5 - 24.9
      • Overweight: BMI 25 - 29.9
      • Obesity (Class I): BMI 30 - 34.9
      • Obesity (Class II): BMI 35 - 39.9
      • Obesity (Class III): BMI ≥ 40

Keep in mind that while BMI can provide a general idea of whether you're within a healthy weight range, it doesn't take into account factors like muscle mass, bone density, and overall body composition. For athletes or individuals with a higher muscle mass, BMI might not accurately reflect their level of health.

If you're concerned about your weight or health, it's always a good idea to consult a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian. They can provide personalized guidance and help you determine the best approach to managing your weight and overall well-being.
